In 1993, the UN established the international World Water Day to be held annually on 22 March. World Water Day was created as an opportunity to remind people how important it is to use water in a sustainable way. GRANDER® has organized several events and activities for World Water Day to raise awareness of this precious resource.

In 1992, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to dedicate a day as World Water Day, following a proposal by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro. The first World Water Day was then observed on 22 March 1993. Ever since, it has been gaining in importance.

The objective of World Water Day is to focus attention on the globally important topic of water. Moreover, it offers opportunities to learn more about water-related topics, find inspiration, share this knowledge with others, and take action to make a difference. This is why every year, the UN invites its member states to commemorate World Water Day by organizing activities to raise public awareness of water.

GRANDER® has been celebrating World Water Day by offering exciting water-related events and activities for many years, among them the ‘water raffle’ and the ‘water photo competition’ to select pictures for the following year’s GRANDER® Water Calendar.

Find out more about World Water Day, the raffle, and the photo competition at www.weltwassertag.com (in German).
